Learn to Prioritise Your Life

Phew, can you believe there’s only a week or so until Christmas? One minute it was October and I was wondering why the shops always have to put out their Xmas decorations so early (it just feels wrong) and now here we are and Xmas is practically a week away. Where did the time go?

Right now I’m trying not to feel overwhelmed by everything I still have to do, like the last minute present buying and wrapping, food and drinks shopping, as well as running my own business and still trying to keep up with friends and family. I try to focus on one thing at a time to get everything done. But it’s so easy isn’t it to feel overwhelmed by everything we need to do at any one time? Which is why one of the best skills you can learn in life is how to prioritise.

If you’re like me you, when you have things you need to do, you want it all done yesterday. However, there are only so many hours in the day. Truth is if you sat down and really thought about what needs to be done and when, you’d find that some things aren’t as urgent as you thought; they don’t really need to be down now, you just want them done so they are out of the way, done and dusted.

Sometimes you have to accept that you can only do so much in a day. Then you need to decide what things take priority and what can be put on the back burner and left for another time.

You’ll find things go much more smoothly if you get organised and write down what needs to be done and by whom. If you can delegate some of your tasks then all the better, it frees you up for those things that are urgent. And this is relevant whether you are running your own business, running a household or just hosting Xmas for your family this year. Don’t let overwhelm get the best of you, instead prioritise your life and you’ll find things flow much better.

Giving Feels Good

As a Spiritual Healer as well as a Coach I have trained in a variety of different healing modalities and have been lucky enough to have worked with many wonderful Spiritual teachers.

Recently, a lovely mentor of mine sent out a process to ‘attune’ her students to Jesus’ energy. This was in depth energy and spiritual work and I won’t go into the nuts and bolts of it here, but it got me to thinking about Jesus and what he represents at this time of year.

Jesus gave his life, and while I am not advocating anything so extreme I would like to ask you, what do you give?

It’s so easy for us to give something to others. We can give them our time, our attention, our money, our food, our love. But do we? Seriously on a day to day, weekly or even monthly basis, ask yourself, what do you give? I bet you might be quite shocked at the answer?

With the best intention, don’t you find you get so wrapped up in your own life that when you’ve looked back over a month or so you find you’ve given very little to others? If this is true, why not take advantage of this time of giving (and receiving) to give something to someone else? You could give:
  • food or money to a homeless person
  • unwanted items or money to charity
  • a home-made cake or pie to your neighbour
  • an unexpected little keepsake to your family member or friend
  • a call to someone you’ve neglected lately
  • a hug to someone who needs it
…the list is endless.

The ways we can give are varied and almost boundless so why do we end up being so stingy with what we have? Especially, when half the time giving wouldn’t cost us a thing. Attention and affection costs nothing and yet to others they may be beyond price.

Don’t wait or deliberate, make it a priority to give something to someone else this week no matter what it is. And if you need anymore incentive, remember what you give comes back to you three-fold. Just think of the positive karma points you could be earning!
