Review Your Goals, Do You Need New Ones?
Are some of your goals things that you have wanted for years but have yet to achieve? Do you really still want to climb Mount Everest, marry your first love, become a writer/painter/interior designer or become the first human to step foot on Mars?
Perhaps when you really take the time to sit down and think about what you want you may find those things you say you want aren’t as important to you any more. Maybe they’ve been superseded by some new aspirations. Maybe instead of climbing Mount Everest you would now like to run your first marathon. Instead of becoming an interior designer you would now like to train as an architect. Or maybe you'd like to try something else altogether like swimming with dolphins.
Be willing to let go of the old and take on the new. Some times we cling to things – even goals - out of nothing more than habit. We’ve wanted to achieve that goal for years, and even though it has never manifested, we are comfortable with that feeling. So every year we come up with the same old resolutions we had last year, deep down knowing we won’t be putting any more energy into making it happen this year than we have in previous years.
One of the resolutions I clung to was to lose half a stone. I made this resolution every January for about 5 years. Last year I resolved to get fitter and healthier. I ended this year weighing a few pounds less and having actually made the effort towards maintaining my weight and fitness. I am slimmer and healthier now than I have been a long while.
Think about your goals needs and desires. Are you clinging to what you thought you wanted? Do they actually fit the person you are today? If not, don’t be afraid to come up with some new ones.
Email me and let me know what new ideas you’ve come up with, I’ll be happy to support you.
