What Needs To Change For You?

Recently, in my healings and meditation I kept getting the message that there needed to be change.

So I looked around my home and thought about what changes were needed. New paint on the walls, new furniture, did I need to move? I made a few changes to my environment, and still I kept getting the message that I needed to change. So I looked at my business and created some new programmes and products. Still I kept getting the message. I finally realised what I had to change was myself.

As it turns out, I was still harbouring some negative beliefs which was affecting my life on an unconscious level, I still had old mindsets that no longer served me and I still had bad habits that were downright detrimental to my wellbeing.

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks working on myself and I am starting to feel better for it.

While concentrating on changing on myself I’ve neglected to reach out for a while so I asked my Divine Guidance what I should write about today. “Change” I was told.

I can only assume the message was not only for me.

If you’re reading this, this message is for you. Now it's your turn. What changes do you need to make in your life for your highest and best good?

Take Care of You

Last summer I discovered a wonderful spa near my home that offers all types of facials and massages including, some wonderful sounding treatments that I’d never heard of. Yet despite promising myself that I would check it out soon the most I’ve done it step over the threshold to pick up a leaflet.

As I was walking past it today I had to admit to myself that the reason I had not yet visited was simply that it felt too self-serving. Although not expensive, it isn't particularly cheap and having a treatment would mean having a good few hours out of my day when I’d be unavailable to others. It just seemed too self-indulgent. Yet as a Coach and Healer I am always reminding others that they must consider themselves “worthy” and “worth it” when it comes to having what they want in their life. I always think I have the firm belief that I’m worth it but my new local spa suddenly showed me where I was ‘all thought and no action’.

So I thought i'd ask, what about you? Do you take time to do things for yourself, give yourself little treats, have some ‘me’ time? Or is this a foreign concept to you? Whether we are wives and mothers, career woman or carers, we all need to take some time for ourselves. After all how can we offer our best to others if we are not at out best?

So this is just a little reminder that from time to time we all need some nurturing, and if you are not getting that from others then you need to make sure you give it yourself.

As for me I am going to be self-indulgent and book a new treatment that I heard about last year and have been dying to try out, Fish Pedicures. Tiny little fish nibbling away at the unwanted skin on your feet instead having your dead skin filed away by a pedicurist. I’m a little apprehensive but I’ll let you know how it goes.

How to Activate Your Energy and Feel Good

This isn’t about doing 20 minutes of yoga first thing in the morning followed by a good breakfast, although that’s no bad thing….I want to talk about your Energy Centres, your Chakras.

Whoa, I see the less spiritually minded among you rolling your eyes and preparing to click ‘close’, but before you do think about this, whether you believe in them or not, you do have energy centres so wouldn’t be nicer to have them working for you rather than against you?

I’ve limited space here and we’re all busy people, so rather than tell you all about Chakra’s I’m just going to give you a quick fix on how to get yours revved up in the morning. Once you know how, it won’t take more than 5 minutes to complete, so here goes…

Stand upright, hands to the sides, feet planted firmly on the floor. Now close your eyes and hold you hands out to the sides. Imagine bright red energy streaming up from the earth beneath your feet (visualise grass, soil, sand, not your bedroom floor). See it shoot up each leg and:

Into your groin leaving a big ball of pulsing red energy behind

Into your pelvis just below your belly button where it leaves a big pulsing circle of orange energy

Into your solar plexus, just under your ribs where it forms into a sphere of golden yellow energy

On into your heart where it turns into a globe of vivid green energy

Up into your throat where it generates a big ball of bright blue energy

Up to your brow, between your eyes, where it leaves a circle of violet energy

Up to the top of your head where it stays and pulses as a big brilliant white ball.

That’s it. Your energy centres are now awakened and you can now proceed with your day confident that you have all the energy you need to cope with whatever life throws your way.

And if you want to know more about energy and Chakras leave a comment below or contact me at lia@thestarur.co.uk, I’d be happy to chat.

9 Reasons to Be Glad

Today is the first time in a good few days that I’ve woken up to sunshine. It’s still a little grey but I’m choosing to see past that in favour of the snatches of blue sky I glimpse waiting to come through.

Days like this, when it is sunny and bright, are great days to just forget about your worries and anything that is getting you down and just be.

Forget about worrying about work, the bills, what you should or shouldn’t eat, your hair, your body, your wardrobe and just be.

1. Be glad, you’ve woken to a sunny day.

2. Be glad you have a job (so many people are unemployed).

3. Be glad you have hair (think of all those people spending thousands trying to get make theirs re-grow).

4. Be glad you have a good body (do I even need to express this one? Do you have all your limbs? Do you have a debilitating or degenerative illness? Does your body move when you ask it to?)

5. Be glad that your children are happy and healthy

6. Be glad you have a partner in your life (many people don’t)

7. Be glad that you have family (some people don’t)

8. Be glad that you have friends (some people don’t)

9. Be glad you have something to be glad for…

We can all find something in our lives that to be thankful for. Whatever it is, just be glad.

9 Fun Colour Tips: Blue

As a Colour Therapist I know how colour can affect every aspect of our lives on a conscious and subconscious level. Yet most people don’t think about the effects of colour and barely seem aware of the power of colours at all.

So everyone now and then I like to profile a single colour and just give a little information and a few tips on it. Today I thought I’d do Blue.

Although I have never understood why, Blue is the most preferred colour in the world, people everywhere in all cultures tend to choose this as their favourite colour. Maybe that is because it’s the colour of both the sea and the sky and therefore can represent calm and turbulence at the same time.

Below I’ve listed 9 fun facts about the colour Blue:

1. It is associated with peace and tranquillity

2. It represents mental capacity, balance and reason

3. It relates to self-expression and creativity

4. It represents communication in all its creative forms, such as singing, playing music, writing and performing

5. It is the colour of the Throat Chakra – where you express who you are

6. It has a calming effect on the nervous system.

7. It is associated with patience, trust and faith

8. If your favourite colour is Blue your likely to be logical, rational and independent

9. If you find yourself consistently choosing blue (eg, clothes, food, décor) you have a real need for serenity, calm and self-expression.

You can utilise the list above to decide how you would like to use blue in your life. Add it to your wardrobe or décor or eat more blue foods. Bring calmness, self-expression, creativity and mental balance into your life in a powerful way and simply enjoy the results.

When You Are At Your Best

This morning I had to get up early for an appointment and quite frankly I found it painful. It’s just that I have a set time that I like to get up, 8.30am. To some that’s ridiculously late, to others it’s way too early to contemplate. Yet for me that’s the best time. It got me thinking about how much time we spend in our lives out of alignment with our own rhythm.

Think about it. Do you tend to eat, sleep and do just about everything else at a set time every day? Up at 7am and breakfast at 7.30am, then lunch 12.30pm (at your desk probably), arrive home, and dinner around 6.30pm-7pm, watch some TV and off to bed around 10.30pm-11pm.

How much of the above do you think even think about? I bet mostly it’s just done out of habit rather than because it feels good, right or natural to you. We just don’t think about what our natural rhythms are.

When I was working as a full-time employee I had to get up for work around 7am. It killed me. I didn’t actually need to be up that early, I used to get up 30 minutes early just to give myself time to ease into the day. Getting up before 8am left me stressed. So that’s how I would start my day, stressed and unhappy. For many of you it might be that you have no choice, you need to be at work at a certain time. But think about where in your life you do have a choice and you are not choosing to exercise it.

Do you live your life according to someone else’s rhythm? Your boss’s your partner’s, your childrens’, your friends’? Do you get up, eat, play, sleep according to a time that is convenient for them?

You are at our best when you live life according to your own rhythm.

Maybe you could take the time to figure out, for you, what that is.

Be the Love

Here we are at the beginning of February.  January has passed and we are in the second month of 2011. What has happened for you so far?

Have you stuck to those resolutions you made or have they already fallen by the wayside?  Maybe you didn’t make any resolutions and decided to just go with the flow.  If so, how is that working for you?  Well whatever it is that’s occurring for you, I invite you to do something different….This month why not take the next four weeks off?

No working on your goals, no giving orders to the Universe in the hopes it’ll deliver what you want, no…well anything.  Instead, as February 14th is Valentines day and this month is all about Love, why not spend the next 4 weeks thinking about and feeling nothing but that?  That’s it.  Just Love and Gratitude.  Your boss is being a pain in the rear, just send him love.  You don’t like your co-workers, just send them love.  Your Mum, Dad, sibling, best friend is being too demanding/getting you down/has let you down, just send them love.  Your car, is playing up, your computer is on the blink, your mobile phone needs replacing just send it Love.

Spend this whole month Loving and being Grateful for everyone and everything.  And, most importantly, with yourself, send yourself Love.  Do you think well of yourself?  Treat yourself well?  Or maybe you don’t like yourself, punish yourself or put yourself down?  Not this month.  Just send yourself Love.  If you’re on a diet go off it.  If you have a punishing rather than enjoyable exercise regime, ease off.  Instead, for the next four weeks, just be loving to yourself and grateful for the body you have.  Be grateful for your mind, your thoughts, and your feelings, for all that your body is capable of and for all it that does for you.  Send Love, Be love.

You can send Love by just sending loving thoughts in your mind, or picture pink energy going from your heart to wherever you want to direct it to or at.

On waking every morning send out loving energy from your heart to everything and everyone around you and do the same at night before going to bed.

Ok, ok, I know it sounds crazy! But you could be amazed at the results. Positive thoughts, feelings and emotions are far more powerful than negative ones and they have the power to improve your life much quicker and with more ease and grace than does your usual, painful struggle to make things go your way.

Why not do this just for the next four weeks? And if you find yourself falling back into your usual patterns of annoyance, anger, impatience, dislike, of putting down others and even more harshly putting down yourself, just remember this month your all about the Love and once again affirm your Love and Gratitude for all.  Do it at least for the first week, even you have to fake it, pretty soon you’ll find it becomes much easier.

Why not do this and let me know your results? I really want to hear from you.

What Are Your Challenges Trying to Teach You?

Recently I found myself puzzling once again over a personal challenge that I seemed to come up against repeatedly.  Do you know those problems that you just can’t seem to find a solution to?  So I decided to sit down and tackle it from another perspective.  I decided to figure out, what is this issue trying to teach me?

Here’s what I did…I wrote out what I was experiencing, when it started, what caused it, and finally…and this is the bit where I had to do some work…what was it I had to learn from this situation?  It worked.  Through this exercise I was able to get some clarity; I wasn’t exactly happy but at least I now understood why this challenge kept cropping up for me.

This method can be used on any problem, challenge or issue you are dealing with and on any obstacle you are facing in any area of your life.  Listing the what, when, where and how may seem easy but don’t dismiss it because even sitting down and doing that can bring some clarity.  But being willing to look at the situation to find what deeper issue you need to become aware of is where the real gift lies.

What can you learn from the challenge or problem you are currently dealing with?  Perhaps it’s that you need to be willing to compromise or accommodate others more?  That you need to be more trusting?  That you need to act with more integrity?  That you need to take more action in your life or be more creative?  That you need to be willing to ask for guidance and accept help from others?  Or that you need to be open to different outcomes rather than stubbornly refusing to consider anything other than what you want.

No matter what the situation there is a gift in it for you, you just have to find it.  It could be teaching you patience, inviting you to discover your creativity, helping you to become organised and structured or asking you to be more flexible and adaptable.  Whatever it is, be willing to uncover the gift and accept it.

Struggling with those Goals Already?

If you’re anything like me you may have found yourself running out of steam already.

I’m a great one for making plans, listing goals and writing down all the things I want to accomplish and everything I intend to do, especially at the start of the year. But I’m going to be very honest with you here, it’s two weeks into the New Year and I’m already struggling to maintain the momentum.

Well if you are grappling to keep focused and keep taking action on your goals here is what you can do:

  • Go through your list again and see whether what you wrote down is really what you want to manifest in your life this year - if it’s not change it, delete what you don’t want and add what you do.
  • Have a look at the list and choose 3 goals that are really important to you, those which would you love with, all your heart, to achieve or to attract into your life. Be really sure of what you choose because these are the goals that for the next few months you are going to put all your energy into.
  • Now that you have your goals think about what small actions you can take, day by day, week by week or month by month to achieve them. Don’t worry about trying to come up with some grand plan, don’t even try and figure the end result; just think about what steps you can take now to eventually get to where you want to be.
  • Then, take action. So, if you want to lose weight think about what would be the best way for you to do that. Should you follow a carefully planned diet? Take part in an online slimming programme? Or join a local weight-loss group? Or if you wanted to change jobs how about making an appointment to see a career advisor, or if that seems to big a step, you could just start by taking an online psychometric test that can tell you what career you appear most suited to.
There really is no need to give up on your goals (especially not this early). Sometimes all you need to do is take a few steps to keep your intentions energised.

Perhaps what you need is an accountability partner. Someone with whom you can share your goals and who will support and encourage you and hold you to attaining them. This could be a partner, friend, family member, or a mentor. Anyone who has you best interests at heart and is willing to listen to your tells of woe and excuses and then tell you why you need to get on with it anyway (in a gentle and loving way of course).

Why not email me and let me know how you get on?

The Passion Test

No I don’t have a test for you today…not yet anyway.  "The Passion Test" by Janet Bray Atwood and Chris Atwood is a great book.  I first read it several years ago and have just rediscovered it a few days ago when I was having a clear out so I thought I’d let you know it is recommended reading.

This book isn’t about sensuality or sex (sorry) it’s all about how discovering your passions can tell you what your life purpose is and how it can lead you to living a life you love.

As I read the book, took the test and completed the exercises, I uncovered so much about myself.  Like how what I thought I wanted from life no longer held true and that I had some new desires that I hadn’t even admitted to myself, mostly out of fear that I could never fulfil them.

The Passion Test is all about revealing your passions and true desires to such an extent that you not only know them, but feel them awaken within you and become activated.  You become motivated to put aside fear and doubt and follow your passions wherever they lead. I know, it happened to me.

This book has been around since 2006 but if you’ve not yet discovered it or have it and haven’t quite gotten around to cracking the cover, I encourage you to read it.  Particularly if you are now, like I was a few years ago, floundering around, not knowing which direction to take or what you want from life.

Everyone wants their life to be filled with fun and laughter.  No-ones wants to live a passion-less life.  Sometimes, however, you just need a little help lighting the flame within. This book could help you turn that flame into a roaring fire.

If you already know what your passions are, even if you’re not living them yet, I’d love to hear about it.

Review Your Goals, Do You Need New Ones?

Are some of your goals things that you have wanted for years but have yet to achieve? Do you really still want to climb Mount Everest, marry your first love, become a writer/painter/interior designer or become the first human to step foot on Mars?

Perhaps when you really take the time to sit down and think about what you want you may find those things you say you want aren’t as important to you any more. Maybe they’ve been superseded by some new aspirations. Maybe instead of climbing Mount Everest you would now like to run your first marathon. Instead of becoming an interior designer you would now like to train as an architect.  Or maybe you'd like to try something else altogether like swimming with dolphins.

Be willing to let go of the old and take on the new. Some times we cling to things – even goals - out of nothing more than habit. We’ve wanted to achieve that goal for years, and even though it has never manifested, we are comfortable with that feeling. So every year we come up with the same old resolutions we had last year, deep down knowing we won’t be putting any more energy into making it happen this year than we have in previous years.

One of the resolutions I clung to was to lose half a stone. I made this resolution every January for about 5 years. Last year I resolved to get fitter and healthier. I ended this year weighing a few pounds less and having actually made the effort towards maintaining my weight and fitness. I am slimmer and healthier now than I have been a long while.

Think about your goals needs and desires. Are you clinging to what you thought you wanted? Do they actually fit the person you are today? If not, don’t be afraid to come up with some new ones.
Email me and let me know what new ideas you’ve come up with, I’ll be happy to support you.

Make This Your Year

Imagine it, New Year, New You!

Forget about all those New Year’s Resolutions you usually make. Such as, I’m going to lose weight, I'm going to get out more, I’m going to….well you get the picture.

This year take the time to really think about what you want from life. Seriously, where do you really want to live? Work? What do you want to look like? Do you want to meet ‘The One’ this year? Have children with your partner? Start your own business? Get a promotion? Write a screenplay?

You’ve probably done this before, but why not write a list of all the things you truly would love to come true for you this year, no matter how wild or wacky. Pick your top 5 and think about how you could make this happen. Don’t panic or get stressed. You don’t need to see the whole path to success. All you need to do is be focused, hold the vision of what you want, and take small steps towards it.

Want to meet the one? You could join a dating site, ask friends and family to set you up on blind dates, or go out more. Want to get a promotion or new job? Why not, brush up on your job skills, take some courses if you have to, think about whatever it is that will give you an advantage over the competition. Really, it’s all about being clear about what you want and taking action, instead of humming and hahhing and doing nothing.

This year I want to grow my business, improve my health and have more love in my life. I’m going to do more marketing and get out and meet more people, eat healthier food and do more exercise and finally make an effort to reach out to the people I love, and be more generous, loving and compassionate in general.

Life is rich, abundant and rewarding and this could be your experience of it if you want it to be.

Let me know what you really want for 2011. Send me a list of your top five wants and state what action you want to take. I will happily be your accountability partner and hold you to them and you can do the same for me. Together we can make 2011 our best year yet.
